Can Lexapro be taken while breastfeeding?

No studies showing the safety of Lexapro during pregnancy have been conducted. The Food and Drug Administration has found that newborn infants can have life-threatening problems with their lungs if their mothers were taking Lexapro during the pregnancy. Contact your doctor immediately if you become pregnant while taking this medication but do not stop taking it on your own. Lexapro passes into the mother's breast milk and may cause adverse effects in her baby.
