Who should not take levetiracetam?

Anyone who has had an allergic reaction to levetiracetam should not take it. Some children should not take levetiracetam, depending on the type of seizures that they experience. Pregnant women should take levetiracetam with caution, as studies in animals have shown that it may cause birth defects. Women should not take levetiracetam while breast-feeding, as it can be passed to a nursing infant through breast milk.
