When should I talk to my doctor about problems with phenytoin?

When you take phenytoin, you may feel side effects such as vomiting, nausea or unwanted hair growth (which will go away shortly). If they continue, call your doctor. Call your doctor right away if you have any of the following symptoms:

  • loss of appetite
  • joint pain
  • rash
  • bruising or bleeding
  • blisters
  • flu-like symptoms
  • fever
  • swollen glands
