What should I know about ethotoin before taking it?

Before starting ethotoin, you should know that it can cause side effects and drug interactions. It may decrease blood cell counts, so it should not be taken by people who have a pre-existing blood disorder. This medication may also alter mental well being, leading to suicidal thoughts, panic attacks and other changes in behavior or mood.  Pregnant or nursing women may be unable to take ethotoin. Those who have lupus, folic acid deficiency or kidney or liver disease should avoid this medication.
