What is zonisamide?

Zonisamide is a prescription medication used to treat partial epileptic seizures.

Partial epileptic seizures are a form of epilepsy in which neural irregularities occur only in a specific area of the brain. People experiencing a partial epileptic seizure stay conscious during the episode.

Zonisamide works to decrease the number of seizures that people with this form of epilepsy experience.

Zonisamide comes in capsule form and is used in conjunction with other seizure medications. Zonisamide is available as a generic drug as well as under the Brand name Zonegran.
