What is Dilantin Infatabs?

Dilantin, in the Infatab dosage form, is the brand name of the active ingredient phenytoin. It is an anticonvulsant used to prevent or control certain types of seizures. It may be used for people with grand mal seizures (in which a person loses consciousness and experiences convulsions) or with temporal lobe seizures (in which a person loses awareness but not consciousness and may have unusual movements, preceded by odd sensations or emotions). Dilantin may also help treat patients during and after brain surgery. This medication works by reducing abnormal electrical activity in the brain.
