Can I stop taking phenobarbital if I feel better?

Even if you feel better or your symptoms have gone away, do not stop taking phenobarbital without talking to your doctor. If you stop taking it all at once, you can have withdrawal symptoms such as irritability, sleepiness and anxiousness. Instead, let your doctor gradually decrease your dose until he or she says you no longer need the medication.
