How should I take Depakote ER?

Depakote ER should be swallowed whole. It should not be broken, chewed or crushed before ingesting. Doing so can interfere with the extended-release function of the tablet. Depakote ER can be taken with or without food. If stomach irritation occurs, then take it with food. Take Depakote ER at the same time each day, and don't stop taking Depakote ER without talking to your doctor. If you are told to discontine Depakote ER you should gradually decrease your Depakote ER dose based on your doctor's instructions.
