How should I take phenobarbital?

Phenobarbital comes as a tablet and an elixir (liquid) to be taken orally. You should take care to take the medication precisely as prescribed by your doctor. Do not take more than prescribed or for a longer duration than recommended. If you are taking phenobarbital for seizures, do not abruptly stop taking the medication, even if you are no longer having any symptoms. If you are taking phenobarbital for anxiety or sleeplessness, take the medication before bedtime as prescribed. If you are taking tablets, always do so with a full glass of water.
