Is Dilantin-125 safe for pregnant or breast feeding women?

Dilantin-125 is not safe for women who are pregnant or breastfeeding. This medication can cause birth defects in a developing fetus and can cause side effects in a nursing infant. Dilantin may not be as effective at controlling seizures when taken during pregnancy. Because of this, women who are pregnant should not use Dilantin. While taking Dilantin, women should make sure to use a non-hormonal form of birth control, because Dilantin may decrease the efficacy of hormonal birth control methods.
