Why does my friend wear a bracelet saying that he's taking warfarin?

Your friend and many people who are taking warfarin wear a medical alert bracelet or carry an ID card that says they are taking warfarin. This information is important so that all healthcare providers will know (even if he is unconscious and can't tell them) that he is taking this medication and is at risk of severe bleeding. Also, all doctors, dentists and other healthcare professionals should know he's taking warfarin because he may need to stop taking it for a little while if he needs antibiotics, surgery or dental work.
