What is doripenem?

Doripenem is the active ingredient in an injectable antibiotic with the brand name Doribax. It is intended for adults with serious urinary tract (like kidney infection) or abdominal infections (like appendicitis, bowel perforation, abscess) caused by susceptible bacteria. It is in a group of antibiotics called carbapenems.
