How does Dificid work to treat diarrhea caused by C. difficile disease?

Dificid (fidaxomicin) works to control severe diarrhea caused by Clostridium difficile (C. difficile) by killing this bacteria in the intestines. It does this by attacking the bacteria's RNA—part of its genetic material. Dificid is not effective against any other type of bacteria.
