What is triclosan?

Triclosan is an antibacterial chemical commonly used in hand sanitizers, soaps, detergents and even some toothpastes. In 2017, FDA banned the ingredient from antibacterial hand soaps and antiseptic products because it was never recognized as generally safe and effective. The companies that manufactured those types of products containing triclosan never provided data to show safety and efficacy.
