Is it safe to use Mupirocin in children?

Mupirocin (Bactroban, Centany) is a topical antibiotic cream or ointment used to treat minor bacterial skin infections such as impetigo. There have been adequate and well-controlled studies saying that mupirocin is safe and effective in children between three months and 16 years. The safety in children younger than three months old has not been determined, so it should be avoided in this younger group of infants.
