Who should not take tiotropium?

You should not take tiotropium (Spiriva HandiHaler) if you know that you are allergic to tiotropium or have had trouble using this medication previously. Also, do not use tiotropium for wheezing or if you are suddenly short of breath -- instead, you should use the rescue inhaler that your doctor has prescribed for this purpose.
