What other drugs will affect theophylline?

Before taking theophylline, tell your doctor if you are taking any of the following medications, so you can be sure to avoid negative drug interactions: some antibiotics, including ciprofloxacin (Cipro), tetracycline (Sumycin), azithromycin (Zithromax), and clarithromycin (Biaxin); certain anti-seizure medicines, including carbamazepine (Tegretol) and phenytoin (Dilantin); oral contraceptives; lithium (Eskalith, Lithobid); and propranolol (Inderal).
