Common side effects of zileuton are stomach upset or pain, nausea, headaches, facial pain, irritated throat or nose, heartburn, muscle aches and diarrhea. These generally do not require a doctor visit unless they become severe. More serious side effects include: changes in urine or stools, chest pain, extreme fatigue or weakness, behavioral changes, fever, sore throat, chills, serious nausea or stomach problems, liver pain (upper stomach area), skin reactions or color changes, yellow-tinged eyes, difficulty sleeping and any changes in mood or mental state, such as increased aggression or irritability, anxiety, sleepwalking, hostility, agitation, hallucination, suicidal thoughts, self-harm, shaking, restlessness, depression and unusual dreams. Also, be on the lookout for any signs of serious allergic reaction, such as rashes, itchiness, labored breathing, chest pain or facial swelling. If you are taking zileuton and experience these or other worrisome side effects, you should see a doctor immediately.
