What are the side effects of terbutaline sulfate?

The side effects of  terbutaline sulfate range from no side effects to severe. Some less severe side effects of terbutaline sulfate include:

  • sleepiness
  • anxiety
  • loss of strength
  • fever
  • rash
  • sores

Side effects may spring up as your body adjusts to the medicine and may very well subside in time. Speak with your doctor should any of these side effects become prolonged or bothersome. Many of the following side effects are rare, but if you experience any of them after taking terbutaline sulfate, see your doctor as soon as possible:

  • shakiness or trembling
  • irregular heartbeat
  • dizziness or fainting
  • warm feeling
  • flushing or sweating
  • headache
  • burning
  • crawling
  • itching
  • numbness
  • prickling
  • "pins and needles" or tingling
  • excessive muscle tone
  • muscle stiffness
  • muscle tension or tightness

The following side effects are signs of an overdose and require emergency help:

  • arm, back, or jaw pain
  • blurred vision
  • chest pain or tightness
  • confusion
  • convulsions
  • decreased urine
  • dry mouth
  • increased thirst
  • loss of appetite
  • mood changes
  • nausea or vomiting
  • nervousness
  • pounding in the ears
  • seizures
  • shortness of breath
  • sleeplessness
  • unusual tiredness or weakness
