Asmanex Twisthaler (mometasone powder) can be used in adults and children older than four years of age, but it does not treat a sudden asthma attack. For asthma attacks, use a fast-acting inhaler (a rescue inhaler).
You run the risk of developing a fungal infection in the throat or the mouth when using the Asmanex Twisthaler. To lower the odds, rinse out your mouth after using the Asmanex Twisthaler.
For a few minutes after using the Asmanex Twisthaler you may experience difficulty breathing or wheezing. Use your fast-acting inhaler and call your doctor. You can also have allergic reactions to the mometasone powder, in which case you should stop using the drug.
Be sure to tell your doctor if you use the drug ketoconazole, seizure medication or corticosteroids. You may need to be monitored by your doctor if you're using oral steroids while being switched to the Asmanex Twisthaler because of the chance of extreme and life-threatening reactions.
See your doctor immediately if you experience low blood pressure, weakness, exhaustion, nausea or vomiting. Asmanex can cause bone loss, so talk to your doctor if you are already experiencing bone loss/osteoporosis. Also, discuss any problems with your eyes, such as glaucoma, cataracts or herpes simplex or eczema around the eye.
Tell your doctor if you have or have been around someone with tuberculosis, chicken pox, the measles and other respiratory infections. If you are having any surgery (including dental procedures), tell the doctor that you are using Asmanex.
