How often do I need to take theophylline?

You may need to take this drug only once a day or as often as every six hours. It is generally taken with a full glass of water on an empty stomach, which means you need to take it two hours after eating or an hour beforehand. Do not chew the tablets; swallow them whole. You can open the extended release capsules (Theo-Dur Sprinkles) and mix them into soft foods such as applesauce.
