What are the side effects of Acanya Gel?

Most people using Acanya Gel acne treatment (benzoyl peroxide/ clindamycin) experience little or no side effects. However, it is important to know when to get medical help if you experience any severe side effects. Call your doctor immediately if you experience signs of an allergic reaction such as:

  • hives
  • itchy skin rash
  • difficulty breathing
  • swelling of the face, tongue, or throat

Discontinue use and contact your doctor if you experience severe side effects such as:

  • severe burning
  • redness, itching, peeling, dryness, swelling, or stinging of the skin

Contact your doctor if you have intestinal problems including blood or mucus in the stool, severe diarrhea, abdominal pain, or stomach cramping. These side effects may indicate a condition called Clostridium difficile-associated diarrhea, which is caused by the absorption of the medication into the bloodstream. If you experience these side effects while taking Acanya Gel or shortly after treatment has stopped, do not take anti-diarrhea medication. This may make side effects worse or more frequent. Acanya Gel can have milder and more common side effects that do not require medical attention such as mild redness, itching, dryness, or swelling of the skin. You can use mild facial moisturizers to reduce the severity of these side effects. Contact your doctor if these mild side effects worsen or if you experience side effects not included on this list.
