What precautions are there for clindamycin/benzoyl peroxide (BenzaClin)?

There are several precautions for clindamycin/benzoyl peroxide (BenzaClin). Talk to your doctor about any of the following:

  • If you know you have allergies to clindamycin, lincomycin, or benzoyl peroxide
  • If you have allergies to other foods or drugs
  • If you plan on becoming pregnant or are already pregnant or breastfeeding.
  • Make sure you tell your doctor and pharmacist every other nonprescription substance (including vitamins or aspirin) and prescription drugs you are taking
  • If you have a gastrointestinal (GI) disease like Crohn's Disease, ulcerative colitis, or any other inflammatory GI problem.
  • If you are currently taking any prescription product that has an ammonium salt (for example, benzalkonium chloride) or erythromycin. Clindamycin/benzoyl peroxide could decrease the effectiveness of erythromycin.
