What is adapalene and benzoyl peroxide?

Adapalene-benzoyl peroxide gel (Epiduo) is a combination topical acne treatment that combines a synthetic retinoid (adapalene) with a keratolytic and antibacterial agent (benzoyl peroxide). It is not known exactly how adapalene and benzoyl peroxide work to treat acne, aside from aiding cell turnover and killing bacteria. Adapalene-benzoyl peroxide gel is available as a prescription and should be used as directed by your doctor.
