Will streptomycin harm my hearing?

Hearing loss is a potential side effect for all users of streptomycin, but some patients may be more at risk than others. People using loop diuretics alongside streptomycin may damage their eighth cranial nerve, resulting in hearing loss. People with pre-existing damage to this nerve also may be at risk for further hearing loss while using streptomycin. Lastly, children of women who used streptomycin while pregnant may have hearing damage because of exposure to the drug while in the womb.
