Why might my doctor prescribe tinidazole?

There are a several reasons your doctor might prescribe tinidazole (Tindamax), all of which relate to infections. First there are two infections of the intestines: giardiasis and amebiasis. Both cause diarrhea, gas and stomach cramps, but amebiasis can spread to other organs, like the liver. This drug is also prescribed to fight a sexually transmitted disease called trichomoniasis.

Tinidazole works by fighting whichever organism is causing the infection. It's part of a class of drugs called antiprotozoal agents.
