Who should take sulfadoxine and pyrimethamine?

Those who have malaria or are traveling or living in an area that is prone to malaria, are candidates to take sulfadoxine and pyrimethamine combination.

However, discuss any medical conditions or medications you may be taking before starting sulfadoxine and pyrimethamine, in case you react adversely to this drug. If you have any allergies to sulfadoxine and pyrimethamine or any of its ingredients, you should not take it. If you are pregnant or nursing, you should speak to your doctor about the risks that may accompany your dosage. Sulfadoxine and pyrimethamine combination should not be used until a child is older than 2 months of age.
