Mild side effects from rifabutin include: vomiting, stomach upset, sleeplessness, loss of appetite, discolored urine, tears, and sweat, diarrhea, headaches and changes in taste. Severe side effects of rifabutin include: vision problems, easy bruising and bleeding, severe stomach upset, chest pain, yellowing of skin and eyes, severe diarrhea, sore throat, flu-like symptoms, sensitivity to light, muscle pain and weakness, swelling, blood in the feces and eye pain. If you experience any of these severe side effects or if your milder symptoms worsen, contact your doctor immediately. Serious allergic reactions can occur while taking rifabutin. Seek emergency medical treatment if you experience any of the following signs of an allergic reaction: skin rash, hives, difficulty breathing, swelling of the face or mouth.
