What are the side effects of proguanil?

The most common side effects of proguanil (Malarone) are vomiting, headache, diarrhea, loss of appetite, nausea, and mouth sores. Some people temporarily lose their hair after taking proguanil. If any of these side effects are severe or persistent, tell your doctor. Seek immediate medical attention if you experience a rash or itchy skin, stomach pain, back pain, blood in your urine, or pain or burning while urinating. These may be serious side effects and may indicate that you have taken an overdose.
