Should I take proguanil before traveling to a place where there is malaria?

Start taking proguanil (Malarone) at least one day before you travel to an area with malaria-carrying mosquitoes. Your body will then have time to absorb enough proguanil to resist the malaria. You will need to take the medication the entire time you are in the malaria area. In addition, you must keep taking proguanil 1-6 weeks after leaving the malaria area.
