Who should not take artemether/lumefantrine tablets?

You should be cautious about taking artemether-lumefantrine if your medical history indicates that this course of action might be dangerous. You should not take this medication if you have a history of heart disease, long QT syndrome, irregular heartbeat, heart attack, potassium or magnesium deficiency, liver disease and kidney disease. Artemether-lumefantrine may diminish the efficacy of hormonal birth control, so make sure to use a non-hormonal backup method. The effect of artemether-lumefantrine on fetuses is not known. Talk to your doctor about your options if you are pregnant, think you might be or are breast-feeding.
