What should I know about nitazoxanide before taking it?

Before taking nitazoxanide, you should discuss with your doctor all medications and supplements that you take regularly or occasionally. Nitazoxanide may interact with certain blood thinners, such as warfarin (Coumadin). Certain medical conditions might prevent you from using nitazoxanide or might affect the recommended dosage. You should discuss the potential risks with your doctor if you have diabetes, liver or kidney disease, or problems with your immune system, including HIV. It is not known whether nitazoxanide is safe to use when you are pregnant, so you should talk to your doctor before using this medication during pregnancy. You should not use it if you are breastfeeding. Keep in mind that nitazoxanide should always be taken with food.
