What should I know about metronidazole before taking it?

You should take metronidazole for as long as your doctor instructs, even if your symptoms improve and you feel better. Additionally, you should not drink alcohol while using metronidazole or for three days after treatment. This medication can often cause unpleasant side effects, including nausea, vomiting, and tingling or burning sensations in your skin. You should tell your doctor about any and all health conditions you have, before taking metronidazole. Also tell your doctor about all prescription and over-the-counter medications, vitamins, and herbs that you are taking.
