What should I know about ivermectin before taking it?

You should know about certain precautions before taking ivermectin. It is not recommended if you are allergic to it or other medications. Discuss with your doctor if you are taking any prescription or over-the-counter medicines, vitamins, supplements or herbs. Particularly notify your doctor if you are taking any medications for anxiety, seizures or mental illness, muscle relaxers, sleeping pills, sedatives or tranquilizers.

Also inform your doctor if you have ever had any of the following conditions: meningitis, African sleeping sickness, immune system disorders, such as HIV or loiasis (a worm infection). Any of these medications or conditions may affect the effectiveness of ivermectin or increase its side effects. If you have bronchial asthma, this medicine could worsen this condition. Also, inform your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
