Streptomycin usually does not interact with foods, but it may interact with other drugs. People who take cyclosporine, cephalosporins, methoxyflurane, vancomycin, nitrosoureas and ibuprofen or similar drugs at the same time as streptomycin are at risk for kidney toxicity. Other medications, namely fludarabine and indomethacin, may increase streptomycin's intended effects and side effects. The effects of nondepolarizing muscle relaxants and succinylcholine also may increase while receiving streptomycin. Taking loop diuretics at the same time as streptomycin could cause damage to your eighth cranial nerve, resulting in hearing loss or deafness. Discuss all of your current medications and supplements with your doctor before receiving a streptomycin injection.
