How should I take mefloquine?

Mefloquine comes in tablets, which you should take once weekly with food and a full glass of water. If you are taking mefloquine to prevent malaria, begin your dosing one week before your departure to the foreign country and continue for four weeks after your return home. If you vomit up to 30 minutes after taking mefloquine, take another dose; if you vomit within 30 minutes to one hour, take another half dose.

Combine mefloquine with other malaria-prevention measures, such as mosquito netting, protective clothing and insect repellent. Do not stop taking mefloquine until you consult with a medical health professional. When treating malaria (as opposed to preventing malaria), you should take five tablets of mefloquine as your once-weekly dose, unless otherwise instructed by your doctor.
