How does metronidazole interact with other medications or foods?

Metronidazole is not known to interact with foods, but your doctor may instruct you to take this medication with food or drink, depending on the side effects you experience. You should not drink alcohol while you are taking metronidazole or for three days after you finish it. Metronidazole interacts with a variety of medications, so it is very important to tell your doctor about any medications or supplements you are taking, before you take metronidazole. In particular, tell your doctor if you take seizure medications, blood thinners, cimetidine, lithium or disulfiram.
