You should avoid alcohol while receiving Flagyl IV and for at least 24 hours after receiving it. It might increase the side effects of alcohol-containing HIV protease inhibitors, macrolide immunosuppressants, lithium, ergot alkaloids, anticoagulants, cyclosporine and busulfan. Conversely, corticosteroids may increase the number or severity of possible side effects from Flagyl IV. Disulfiram, phenytoin, barbiturates and amiodarone, when taken with Flagyl IV, may cause changes in mental state, reduce Flagyl IV's effects and change heart rate. Always talk to your doctor about your medical history, current medications and supplements before receiving a new prescription.
