Can I drink alcohol while using ethionamide?

No, drinking alcohol while taking ethionamide may cause some severe problems. The form of alcohol in wine, beer and liquor is known as ethanol. It has been reported that consuming large amounts of ethanol while using ethionamide has caused some people to become psychotic, or lose touch with reality. Both ethanol and ethionamide are metabolized by the liver, so taking both at the same time can cause liver problems.
