Can my elderly parents take primaquine?

Your elderly parents may be able to take primaquine if prescribed by the doctor. Studies have not determined whether the medication will work the same in older patients. Also, your parents may be more sensitive to the drug and its side effects. Since your parents may have reduced kidney function and heart problems typical of older patients, they may require a lower dose of primaquine. Talk to their doctor about their health, current medications and whether primaquine is appropriate for them.
