Is artesunate available in other forms if I cannot swallow a tablet?

Yes, artesunate is available in several forms. Sometimes symptoms in severe cases of malaria can include nausea, vomiting and even convulsions. If you have been diagnosed with malaria and cannot keep the tablet form of the medicine down, talk with your doctor or health care provider about other solutions. Artesunate is available as an injection or through rectal administration. Malaria patients often live in rural areas of the tropics or subtropics, where injection treatment can be delayed or unavailable. A rectal form of artesunate medication has improved outcomes for severe childhood malaria, especially in rural African settings.
