Who should take nevirapine?

Nevirapine is intended for patients who have HIV (human immunodeficiency virus) infection or AIDS (acquired immunodeficiency syndrome) to help prevent the virus from replicating. Nevirapine is available for adults and, with care, for children three months to 18 years of age. The medication is available for infants 15 days to three months of age, but it should be taken with tremendous caution. The effects of nevirapine have not been adequately tested on adults older than 65 years of age and should be used with caution in this age group as well.
