If you're allergic to any ingredient in adefovir, you shouldn't take this medication. If you're already taking HIV medications, such as Atripla, Viread or Truvada, you shouldn't take adefovir. Children under 12 years of age also should not take this medication. Women who are pregnant should talk to their doctor before taking adefovir because it's not known whether this medication may harm a developing fetus. Women also should talk to their doctors before breastfeeding while taking adefovir. If you have a history of kidney problems, talk to your doctor before taking adefovir.
