Who should not take delavirdine mesylate?

Delavirdine mesylate is the same as delavirdine. It should not be taken by children under 16 years of age. If your hepatic function is impaired, you should use delavirdine with caution. You should not take delavirdine if it is your only antiretroviral therapy, as it can create a resistant virus. Women who are pregnant, planning to become pregnant or are nursing, should talk to their doctors before starting delavirdine as the effects on a fetus or breastfeeding baby is not known.
