What are the side effects of adefovir dipivoxil?

Some people may have an allergic reaction to adefovir, which leads to symptoms, such as hives, swelling in the face or throat and difficulty breathing. Seek medical attention right away if you experience any of those symptoms. Adefovir may also increase your risk for lactic acidosis, a potentially life-threatening buildup of lactic acid in the blood. Talk to your doctor if you develop symptoms like difficulty breathing, irregular heartbeat, unusual weakness or muscle pain, dizziness and stomach pain with nausea and vomiting. Adefovir also may cause liver or kidney problems, resulting in symptoms like change in color of urine or stools, stomach pain or nausea, loss of appetite or yellowing of the skin and eyes. Other side effects of adefovir may include headaches, weakness, nausea, stomach pain, gas and diarrhea. More side effects are possible, so talk to your doctor if any new or unusual symptoms develop while using adefovir.
