What are the more serious side effects of tipranavir?

The more serious side effects of the HIV drug tipranavir (Aptivus) include the following:
  • rash and/or itching
  • fevers, chills, coughing or other signs of infection
  • throat tightness, or trouble swallowing or breathing
  • muscle or joint pain or stiffness
  • redness or peeling of your skin
Aptivus can also raise blood sugar. Serious side effects related to high blood sugar levels include:
  • blurred vision
  • weakness
  • extreme hunger or thirst
  • frequent urination
Call your doctor if you experience any of these symptoms; if blood sugar gets high enough, you may fall into a coma. Don't stop taking your medicine without talking to your doctor first.
