What is Isentress?

Isentress (raltegravir) is part of a group of HIV medications called HIV-1 integrase strand transfer inhibitors. Isentress blocks the function of the enzyme HIV-1 integrase, which then prevents HIV from multiplying. However, it cannot prevent you from getting an illness due to HIV, transmitting HIV to other people or cure an HIV infection. In order for it to be effective, Isentress should be taken with other HIV medications.
