How does indinavir interact with other medications or foods?

Some medications that can interact negatively with indinavir include: certain seizure medications, some antidepressants and antipsychotics, certain statin medications, some phosphodiesterase type 5 inhibitors, protease inhibitors other than indinavir, some calcium channel blockers, some antibiotics and medications that suppress the immune system. In addition, some foods and herbal remedies can cause negative interactions, including red yeast rice and St. John's Wort. Because some combinations of medications, supplements or herbal remedies with indinavir can be harmful, be sure to tell your doctor about all other medications, vitamins, supplements or herbal remedies that you take.
