What should I avoid while taking lamivudine?

You should avoid alcohol while taking lamivudine (Epivir or Epivir HBV), since these drugs together amplify the risk of damage to the pancreas and liver. You should also avoid the medications interferon-alfa, ribavirin, trimethaprim and sulfamethoxazole, which can increase the side effects associated with lamivudine. You should also be aware that even if lamivudine is successfully treating your symptoms, you are still infected with HIV or the hepatitis B virus and can easily transmit it to another person. Hepatitis B virus infection is treated with Epivir HBV, a lower dose of the HIV medication Epivir.
