Are there any risks in taking ritonavir?

There are a number of health risks linked to taking ritonavir. For example, if you have diabetes you're at greater risk of developing pancreatitis. Your odds of becoming pregnant go up if birth control pills are your only form of contraceptive; ritonavir decreases the effects of some oral contraceptives. This drug may put you at risk for serious liver problems or skin infections. While there have not been many studies about the effects of ritonavir during pregnancy, you shouldn't become pregnant or breastfeed a newborn baby as there is a strong risk of transmitting HIV to the baby.
